In my playing days, Theoren Fluery and Mark Messier had the ability to reach their top speed in a few short explosive strides to breakaway from an opponent or burst through an opening to gain body position to protect the puck. Today's players like Martin St. Louis and Jarome Iginla do the same. "I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try out the skating treadmill at Acceleration Ottawa with my teammates from the Gatineau Olympiques. After using the treadmill just a couple times I realized what an excellent training tool it is.
