WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR? The Acceleration Program helps individuals and teams with all degrees of athletic ability to improve. If you really like to work hard, you are sure to improve speed, strength and self-confidence. Put more in, get more out. Our goal is to help every participant get better, no matter what level they are at when they come through our doors.
Our program has spread to over 100 sites throughout the U.S., Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom. Many professional athletes use it to gain speed and power. It has been used by athletes from the NHL, NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball.
WHAT ABOUT AGE LIMITS? There are none. Kids have started in our program as young as age 8. We modify the intensity and program duration for each athlete, so the Acceleration Program is safe and effective whether you are 8 or 88!
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM INVOLVE? The patented skating treadmill and running treadmill will be used to analyze and improve your running and skating mechanics. Using mirrors we show you any problems with your gait. We help you lengthen and quicken your stride, so you are faster and more agile. You will use the treadmill to run or skate in gradually increasing sprints, so your body gets conditioned to recover quickly from enzymes released during bursts of activity.
Plyometrics are footwork drills to improve your balance, agility, foot speed and vertical jump. You will gain outstanding body awareness and the ability to move quickly and explosively.
Strength training involves use of weight lifting equipment to improve your power base. Very young athletes may use strength building techniques that do not use weights.
Patented sprint cords attach to your arms or legs to increase resistance when you are running, skating, kicking or throwing. They are used differently for each sport. Sprintcords enable athletes to strengthen at velocities used in actual athletic competition.
The programs vary in length depending on in-season versus off-season training. You should plan to schedule three sessions a week for maximum improvements and physiological changes.
Session packages are available, with the flexibility of scheduling the appointments based on your in-season schedule.
WHEN SHOULD I BEGIN THE ACCELERATION PROGRAM IN RELATION TO THE ATHLETIC SEASON? Because everyone's situation is different please consult an expert at Acceleration Ottawa to determine the best start date for you. Start dates will depend on the type of program you will be doing and time of year in which you are training.
WHAT CAN I DO DURING THE SEASON TO MAINTAIN IMPROVEMENTS THAT I HAVE MADE IN THE ACCELERATION PROGRAM? We have maintenance programs available at Acceleration Ottawa. Take advantage of our patented skating treadmill to improve skating mechanics, foot speed and endurance when you are unable to schedule regular ice time.
HOW IS THE ACCELERATION PROGRAM DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I CAN GET AT CAMPS? There is no other program like ours in the world. We use patented equipment designed for and used exclusively by the Acceleration Program. Acceleration Program protocols were scientifically developed and tested with input from exercise physiologists, orthopedic physicians, athletic trainers, physical and occupational therapists and others. Besides this high level of expertise, athletes who have been through our program will tell you that it is fun and it is super for building motivation.
